Each genre of music has a fashion trend. For example, pop music has glitzy aspects factored in their style. Generally, this genre leans toward colourful combinations. Examples have been worn by Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. Rock music is also commonly adorned with black and anything dark and metallic. Just think metal studs, boots, and dark makeup. For instance, just by looking at Metallica, one can never mistake them for country.
Hip hop genre have their so-called bling bling as well. It is almost a must for every hip hop lover to have these accessories. Not to mention their love for baggy clothes. But these are just examples. There are still more genres that have their own unique style. There are still the styles of punk rock, classical, country and so forth.
Outfits have a lot to say regarding people's taste in music. In fact, a lot of people, just by looking at music-lovers' style, can determine what they like. Commonly, you cannot mistake a cowboy-hat-and-boots type of person to love hip hop. The common and sometimes accurate conception of this is the person loves country. But of course, this is not the case all the time.
At concerts, it is also easy to guess the kind of show it will be. Just by judging the spectator's outfits, a lot can tell its genre. Usually, when the people in line at concerts wear black, the show is likely to be of rock. When the ones in line are parents with excited kids-in-pink, it is likely to be of a Disney pop concert. But are outfits must really be of accordance to concerts?
The answer is definitely no. Not unless of course the
concert has a dress code. But there has been no rule as to how people must dress at concerts. It just so happened that fans of a certain genre dress similarly. Probably the adage rings true to this situation. Birds of the same feather flock together. People who love a certain genre express themselves the same way. Thus people see similarities in colours, accessories and so forth.
Each genre's fashion also brings a sense of belonging. Thus at
concerts, in order to belong, concert-goers dress in accordance to the genre's fashion. If not, it would be funny to spot a bubblegum pop outfit in a hard metal rock concert. This does not say, however, that one cannot watch a concert as he pleases. More than anything, everyone has freedom to dress as they please. They can dress in manners they like regardless of their preferred genre.
